ZETA, in collaboration with IRESEN - Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies, co-hosted an exclusive webinar on December 5, 2024, focusing on the impact of the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on Morocco’s industrial sectors.
The webinar delved into key topics such as the financial implications of CBAM, which will take effect in 2026, and provided valuable insights into strategies for mitigating its impact. Discussions included the potential of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and solar self-production to reduce emissions and stay competitive in the face of new regulations. Additionally, the Moroccan carbon tax and its economic impact were thoroughly examined.
Experts, including Jared Braslawsky of iTrack Foundation and Kenneth Walace Muller of DLA Piper, shared practical solutions to navigate CBAM’s challenges, emphasizing the role of renewable energy and sustainable competitiveness. The event also covered the significance of aligning with global carbon regulations, as Morocco’s key industrial sectors were urged to act proactively to remain competitive in the decarbonizing global market.
The session, conducted in both English and French, offered an excellent opportunity for local stakeholders and industry professionals to explore actionable insights for complying with the evolving CBAM landscape, turning potential challenges into opportunities for growth and sustainability.
